Tracey Westerhausen, a small town girl from Mesa, Arizona, spent much of her youth in the campgrounds of Arizona, where the family took most of their vacations and weekend trips.
Tracey received her B.A. from Arizona State University and her J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and has been involved with numerous professional organizations including Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Arizona Women Lawyers’ Association, and the Positive Re-Entry Program which aims to improve care and treatment of incarcerated sex offenders.
Since 1990, Tracey has been practicing criminal law full time in the areas of trial work, appeals, and petitions for post-conviction relief. In 1997, Larry Debus and Larry Kazan greatly increased the size of the firm name when they asked her to become partners with them, in the firm now known as Debus, Kazan & Westerhausen. She is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, as is the firm.
With her expertise in appeals, PCR’s and sex crimes, she has often lectured for the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice and for the State Bar of Arizona on these topics. Tracey has taught at seminars for sex crimes detectives and nurses, regarding the defense perspective of their investigations. She co-authored the criminal law chapter of the Arizona Appellate Handbook.
In the community, Tracey continues to serve as a board member and volunteer for the Liberty Wildlife Foundation and previously served 3 years on the Madison School District Citizens Advisory Committee. She also was active with the Combined Phoenix Metropolitan Arts & Sciences (COMPAS) group.
Arizona’s natural, cultural and recreational resources are unique to the state. They inspired Tracey to serve on the Parks Board, hoping to contribute to the preservation of these treasures for generations to come. Her mom, dad and brother are avid fishermen and hunters; Tracey’s favorite hunting gear is a crab pot for use along the ocean shore.
