FY 2008 Grant Application Workshops


Arizona State Parks will offer several competitive grant programs for FY 2008. This flyer is an invitation to the workshop sessions providing detailed instructions on how to complete a grant application. Workshops are free and application points may be awarded for workshop attendance.

Historic Preservation Heritage Fund applicants are required to attend one of the workshops being held statewide to be eligible for funding. There are two Historic Preservation application cycles annually.

The Local, Regional, and State Parks Heritage Fund and the Trails Heritage Fund workshops are conducted simultaneously.

The Recreational Trails Program (motorized portion), and State Lake Improvement Fund workshops are independent.

Growing Smarter State Trust Land Acquisition Grant Program workshops are independent.

To support non-motorized trail acquisition,construction and trail improvements in the State Trail System. A trail must be part of the State Trails System to be eligible for a Trails Heritage Fund grant. Nomination forms are due by July 1, 2008 for FY 2009 grants.

To support historic preservation efforts consistent with the Secretary of Interior Standards. Applicants are required to attend at least one Grant Application Process Workshop to apply for a Historic Preservation grant. On March 14, 2008 and September 16, 2008 additional workshops are being offered on specific Historic Preservation topics (see below). These are extra, separate workshops and attendance is optional. Everyone is invited to attend.

Workshop Format

Arizona State Parks will conduct a Growing Smarter State Trust Land Acquisition grant workshop to provide instructions on the completion and submittal of applications for Land Conservation Fund monies. Program requirements and procedures as well as the rating criteria used to prioritize acceptable grant applications will be discussed.

**Applicants for future grant cycles are encouraged to attend, as the Arizona Preserve Initiative & Growing Smarter timeline of events for preserving open space will also be presented.

Applications are due in the Phoenix office of State Parks by 5:00 p.m. on FRIDAY, May 30, 2008. Faxed or electronically mailed copies of grant applications will not be accepted

Grant Awards Process

The Arizona State Parks Board is expected to announce Growing Smarter grant awards in September 2008. The final award of all grant monies is made if the grant award recipient is the highest and best bidder for the parcel of State Trust land at public auction. In future grant cycles, the Arizona State Land Department requests that the application for sale or lease be filed in August.
