Kartchner Caverns State Park Limits Cave Tours for Summer

(Phoenix, AZ - May 27, 2009) - According to Parks Operations Chief Janet Hawks, "Starting June 1 until September 4th, the number of summer cave tours at Kartchner Caverns State Park will be reduced to 11 per day from Thursday through Monday and tours will start at 9am. On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be only six tours per day with those tours starting at 10 am. The Discovery Center will be open 8 am – 5:30 pm most of the week, but won't open until 9am on Tuesday and Wednesday and will close at 5pm. These changes will help us consolidate tours and staff during the summer when there is less demand and it is more difficult to get volunteers," said Hawks.

When you book your tour for any day between June 1 and September 4, 2009 an adult cave tour ticket will be reduced in price to $12 while tickets for youths aged 7-13 will be sold for $5 (children aged 6 and younger are always free). Ticket buyers will save $6.95 and $4.95 respectively per ticket. (This promotion cannot be combined with other discounts or coupons.)

Make your cave tour reservation by calling (520) 586-2283. The $5 entrance fee is waived with that tour reservation for a vehicle with up to two adults, however there is a $2 per adult charge for each additional adult passenger. The reservation ticket office is open seven days per week for cave reservations. Remember to book tours in advance for Kartchner Caverns State Park. There are no online reservations so you must call for reservations. Walk-up tickets are by availability only, so may not be as accessible as there are less tours per day. Weekends are expected to fill first so call to book tickets as soon as possible. The Park also offers a large, modern campground in the foothills of the Whetstone Mountains with views of the entire San Pedro Valley.

Kartchner Caverns State Park is located on Highway 90, nine miles South of I-10 near Benson, Arizona. For more information about Arizona State Parks call (602) 542-4174 (outside of the Phoenix metro area call toll-free (800) 285-3703) or visit AZStateParks.com.
