Educational Presentations at Riordan
Mansion State Historic Park in September

(Phoenix, Arizona – September 14, 2007) – Riordan Mansion State Historic Park will present educational presentations in September.

On Saturday, September 22 at 7 p.m., as part of the Evening Slide Presentation Series, Historian Eric Berg will present “Rock Hounds and River Rats: The 1937 Carnegie-Caltech Grand Canyon Expedition.” In the fall of 1937, four geologists and three boatmen conducted the first comprehensive study of the ancient rock formations along the length of the Grand Canyon’s deep Inner Gorge. Based on original research from diaries, newspaper accounts, and scientific reports, the presentation will use the expedition members own words, as well as rarely-seen photographs and movie footage, to describe one of the Canyon's most overlooked early voyages.

On Sunday, September 23 at 7 p.m., Author Anne Minard presents, “Pluto and Beyond: Untold Stories of Discovery, Adversity, and Ongoing Exploration.” Minard discusses her book about the quest to peek farther into the heavens and the challenges of sustaining that quest in today's world. Minard will also reveal intimate stories and extraordinary personalities of the discoverers of Mars, Pluto, founder of the Lowell Observatory and many other space explorers.

Since seating is limited for both presentations. For more information about events at Riordan Mansion State Historic Park or to make a reservation, call the park at (928) 779-4395.
