"Picacho Peak Hill Climb" at Picacho Peak State Park

(Phoenix, Arizona - October 19, 2007) - On Sunday, November 4, Picacho Peak State Park and the Tucson Model A Ford Club host the "Picacho Peak Hill Climb." The event begins at 8 a.m.

Park fees are $6 per vehicle for up to 4 adults, each additional adult is charged $2 each. A $2 per person entrance fee applies to pedestrians and bicyclists. The park is located off I-10, on exit 219 -- just 60 miles south of Phoenix, and 40 miles north of Tucson. For more information call (520) 466-3183.

When traveling along Interstate 10 in southern Arizona, visitors can't miss the prominent peak at Picacho Peak State Park. There are five hiking trails at the park that vary in difficulty. In the spring, depending on the rainfall, there is an abundance of wildflowers including Mexican Gold poppies, yellow brittlebush and yellow creosote that cover the mountain. The mountainsides will turn from mostly yellow to purple as the purple lupine starts to overshadow the Mexican Gold poppies and then the cactus flowers will bloom.

Picacho Peak State Park has 85 electric and non-electric campsites. Campsites are available on a first come-first served basis, picnic areas, ramadas, grills, dump station, restroom, showers, trails, historical markers and playground. Group areas for day and overnight use are available by reservation.

The Tucson Model A Club is Tucson's chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America, Inc. (MAFCA), dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Model A Ford automobile as manufactured from 1928 through 1931. The purpose of this club is to exchange ideas, information, restoration, preservation of the Model A Ford automobiles manufactured from 1928 through 1931.
