Jerome State Historic Park Conducts Geology Walking Field Trips for Kids

(Phoenix, Arizona - November 8, 2007) - Beginning on Saturday, November 17th, Jerome State Historic Park will conduct free "Geology Walking Field Trips for Kids."

The field trip will introduce kids to basic geology principles starting with the three major rock types, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. They will learn to identify rocks and collect samples. Linda Heidenreich, local teacher, will be leading the tours. She has led geology field trips for kids for four summers.

The field trip is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 but is limited to 10 children. Pre-registration is required by November 14. No drop-ins accepted. Kids should be dropped off at Jerome State Historic Park for this first session by 8 a.m. and picked up at noon. These are walking tours. Please be sure your child has good walking shoes and is dressed appropriately for the weather including a hat.

There are field trips tentatively scheduled for February and March with dates to be announced. Each program will focus on different aspects of the geology of the area.

For more information or to register, contact Nora Graf at Jerome State Historic Park at (928) 634-5381. Jerome State Historic Park is located in the town of Jerome just off State Route 89A on Douglas Road.
