Jerome State Historic Park Hosts a Talk about Plate Tectonics

(Phoenix, Arizona - November 26, 2007) - Art Smith will discuss "When the Earth Moves" on Wednesday, December 5th at 3 p.m. at Jerome State Historic Park.

Plate tectonics is a theory of geology which developed in the 1960s and 1970s, but which has since transformed all of earth science. The theory has revolutionized how we think about earth history. This talk will discuss the fundamentals of the theory in an easy to understand way, and will reveal the history of the theory's development. The talk will answer some of the questions on the basics of plate tectonics. What causes earthquakes? What about volcanoes? Do continents really drift around the globe? Why are some parts of the earth covered by continental land masses and other parts by ocean basins?

Art Smith is originally from Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana Tech. He has worked for 35 years in oil and gas exploration with U.S. assignments in New Orleans, Houston, and San Francisco as well as international assignments in Europe, Australia and West Africa. He retired to the Verde Valley in early 2002 and now lives in Cottonwood.

There is a $3 admission fee for adults to attend. For more information please call (928) 634-5381. Jerome State Historic Park is located in the town of Jerome just off State Route 89A on Douglas Road at 100 Douglas Road.
