"Be a Steward of the Past"
Volunteers Needed to Assist Preserving Archaeology Sites in Arizona

(Phoenix, Arizona - December 6, 2007) - Are you concerned about the loss of heritage or archeological resources in the Safford area? Do you enjoy the outdoors and have an interest in preserving archaeological resources? Then, become an "Arizona Site Steward. This statewide program is currently recruiting volunteers for the Safford Arizona area. The Bureau of Land Management and the State Land Department manage these heritage or archeological land sites.

In Safford, Site Stewards monitor archeological sites and report changes of conditions, whether caused by nature or by human intervention. Training will be provided and scheduled in Safford after the December Holidays. Volunteers are required to complete 10 hours of training, which include: federal and state antiquity laws; documenting sites; identifying artifacts and sites; and how to manage and photograph crime scenes as it applies to archeological sites.
