Arizona State Parks Seeks Advisory Group Members

(Phoenix, Arizona - July 26, 2007) - Arizona State Parks is seeking Advisory Group Members for the term beginning on January 1, 2008. The deadline for submitting an application is 5 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2007.

Those who hike, bike or ride a horse on a non-motorized trail, or take their off-highway vehicle on a motorized trail, can apply for membership in the Arizona State Committee on Trails (ASCOT), or the Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Group (OHVAG). Those interested in preserving Arizona's history and heritage are needed by The Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (HPAC).

The Arizona State Committee on Trails (ASCOT) represents non-motorized trail interests and serves in an advisory capacity to the Arizona State Parks Board. The overall mission of the Arizona Trails Program is to promote, develop, and preserve non-motorized trail opportunities throughout the state. Parks staff works with the ASCOT to: 1) advance and promote non-motorized trail use; 2) provide technical assistance; 3) promote trail management and development; and 4) provide trails-related information and education opportunities throughout Arizona.

The Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (HPAC) serves in an advisory capacity to the Parks Board and 1) assists in developing guidance for the historic preservation component of the Arizona Heritage Fund; 2) reviews and comments on staff recommendations to the Parks Board on Arizona Heritage Fund Historic Preservation grant applications, grant policies, and funding priorities; and 3) performs other duties as requested by the Parks Board.

The Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Group (OHVAG) serves in an advisory capacity to the Parks Board. The mission of the Arizona Off-Highway Vehicle Program is to: develop and enhance statewide off-highway vehicle opportunities and to develop education programs that promote resource protection, social responsibility, and interagency cooperation.
