FIREWORKS AND DUCK RACES ON JULY 4th
AT LYMAN LAKE STATE PARK

(Phoenix, AZ - June 14, 2007) - This year's Fourth of July Fireworks over Lyman Lake State Park will not only celebrate Independence Day, but also State Parks 50th anniversary.

The Fourth of July at Lyman Lake State Park will feature rubber duck races and fireworks booming against canyon walls around Lyman Lake. Rangers expect the rubber duck races to begin at approximately 6 p.m. and the evening's Fireworks should begin about 8:30 p.m. (see full schedule below).

The Fourth of July events will also commemorate Arizona State Parks' 50th anniversary. This will be a celebration with dignitaries and a cake cutting under the big tent at 7 p.m. 50th Anniversary displays will be featured including activities for children.

For more information please call Lyman Lake State Park rangers at (928) 337-4441. Summer days at Lyman Lake State Park are perfect for fishing, camping and hiking. Make plans now to celebrate at Lyman Lake State Park, located 11 miles south of St. Johns Arizona on US 191.

July in the North Country is a great time for camping at one of Lyman
Lake's 61 camping sites with shady ramadas, picnic tables and grills. 38 sites have electric hook-ups with dump stations. There are also restrooms and hot showers. For a new family adventure, reserve one of the yurts or log cabins. The yurts are 16-feet round and the cabins are 14 feet by 16 feet with a six-foot porch. The cabins are air-conditioned with room to sleep four people (bunk beds). Tents and RVs can be set up next to the cabins for large families. Reservations are limited to no more than 15 nights and occupancy limited; please call the park for details.

This event is part of Arizona State Parks 50th Anniversary celebration held from October 2006 through December 2007. Special events will be held at each park such as a traditional mariachi festival, plein air shows, an apple festival, geocaching, solar energy celebrations and astronomy galas. Hiking, fishing, boating and mountain biking await those individuals with an adventurous attitude. Come uncover the many secret places and stories that are still to be found in Arizona's State Parks.

The Arizona State Parks Board was established in 1957 to acquire and manage park and cultural areas. Over the years, legislation has added other programs to Arizona State Parks and as a result, the volunteer Board is responsible for a much broader spectrum of duties. These duties are related to historic preservation, archaeology, outdoor recreation, resource conservation/education and grant administration.
