VERDE RIVER CLEAN-UP ON SATURDAY DRAWS VOLUNTEERS FROM EIGHT DIFFERENT VERDE VALLEY ORGANIZATIONS

(June 1, 2007) - On Saturday, June 2, volunteers from eight different Verde Valley organizations will meet at Dead Horse Ranch State Park at 8 a.m. to tackle the trash cleanup along the Verde River as part of the national American Rivers' river cleanup.

"National River Cleanup Week" is an annual event raising public awareness for the mountains of trash accumulating in our nation's waterways. Tens of thousands of volunteers will be taking part in hundreds of cleanups across the country to remove trash from rivers and streams. The Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Friends of the Verde River Greenway are jointly hosting this year's event. The Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Salt River Project have generously donated funds and in-kind support for the work crews.

Valley volunteers have signed up from the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club, Friends of the Verde River Greenway, Verde River Citizen's Alliance, Stewards of Public Lands, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Yavapai-Apache Nation Youth Council, Arizona State Parks department, and the Arizona State Parks Foundation.
