Fun Nature Programs Offered at Buckskin Mountain and Cattail Cove State Parks

(Phoenix, Arizona - January 15, 2008) - Cattail Cove and Buckskin Mountain State Parks will present a variety of hikes, walks and talks that will be fun for the whole family. Some topics explored are owls, snakes, birding, bats, stargazing and the Arizona Living History Series. Remember to bring a sweater or a throw to keep cozy. All programs weather permitting.

Legends & Dreamers DVD Showing on Saturday, January 19 at Cattail Cove State Park at 7 p.m. at the Amphitheatre. Rich storytelling and stunning photography bring a new perspective to a collection of stories from Arizona Highways magazine. Meet a man who crossed the state on horseback on a journey of self-discovery. Ride a train along the San Pedro River and relive the shootout between the Earps and the Claytons at the O.K. Corral.

Campfires are a Camping Classic on Saturday, January 19 at 7 p.m. at Buckskin Mountain State Park at the Interpretive Center. Gather round a roaring fire and roast a marshmallow or two. We will ignite the blaze and you're welcome to add your musical talent and storytelling to the mix. Bring your chair to the campfire ring. $2.

Arizona Living History Series: The Mountain Man on Wednesday, January 23 at 7 p.m. at Buckskin Mountain State Park at the Interpretive Center. Celebrated guest presenter Bob Wright will do his program as the Arizona Mountain Man, Bill Williams. Come and visit him and have a cup of mountain man coffee as he tells you his stories. Remember to bring a chair to the campfire ring. $2.

Go on a Nature Hike! on Friday, January 25 at 10 a.m. at Buckskin Mountain State Park. Join your guide for a moderately challenging 2 1/2 mile trek into the beautiful back country on the Buckskin Trail. Hike last about 2 hours and departs from the Ranger Station.

Bird Hike with Dr. Mike Rourke on Saturday, January 26 at Buckskin Mountain State Park at 7 a.m. Come join Dr. Rourke from Mohave Community College on a 45-minute walk to have a chance to view the wonderful birds of the Colorado River and the nearby desert. Don't worry if you don't have binoculars since we have some to lend to you for the program.

Birding 101 on Saturday, January 26 at Cattail Cove State Park at 2 p.m. at the Amphitheatre. By learning a few identification techniques, birding can become a more pleasurable experience. Cattail Cove presents a workshop on how to bird, for beginners and anyone interested. Tips and techniques will be shown and addressed. Binoculars and mini bird guides will be available to sign out after the slideshow to use during the week.

Sunday Non-Denominational Service on Sunday, January 27 at Buckskin Mountain State Park at 3:30 p.m. Enjoy the beautiful backdrop of the Colorado River during a non-denominational service conducted by park volunteers. (Note - Arizona State Parks does not endorse any religious group or message.)

History of the River on Wednesday, January 30 at Buckskin Mountain State Park at the Interpretive Center at 2 p.m. Learn about the river's unique and diverse history with Jim McReynolds as he talks about our local history of the Colorado River. $2.

Ice Cream Social at Buckskin Center - Tuesdays - January 22 & January 29 at Buckskin Mountain State Park at 2 p.m. Bring your own bowl and spoon for our ice cream social and meet new friends. A donation is appreciated.

Cattail Cove State Park is located on State Route 95, 15 miles south of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The beach, boat ramp and campsites offer a broad spectrum of activities for all to enjoy including swimming, fishing, or just lounging around and relaxing. Regular day use park fees are $10 per vehicle for 1 to 4 adults and $2 per person fee for individuals and bicyclists. Camping sites are $21 for electric sites. Buckskin Mountain State Park is located on Arizona Highway 95, about 12 miles north of Parker, Arizona, on the Colorado River. The park is a popular location for boating, fishing, jet skiing, hiking, swimming and camping amidst a backdrop of beautiful mountains. Regular day use park fees are $8 per vehicle for 1 to 4 adults and $2 per person fee for individuals and bicyclists. Camping sites are $19-30 for electric sites.
