Volunteers Needed for Trail Programs at Oracle State Park, Center for Environmental Education

(Phoenix, Arizona - January 16, 2008) - Oracle State Park is looking for volunteers to help with trail programs. The Volunteer Orientation Class will be held on Wednesday, January 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Do you have an enthusiasm for the outdoors and enjoy sharing nature with kids? Can you comfortably walk one mile of trail? Help us offer students a meaningful outdoor learning experience. Volunteering 50 hours earns you an Arizona State Parks Pass. No experience is necessary.

The park relies on volunteers for a variety of essential tasks: garden maintenance, trail maintenance, historic building maintenance and construction projects. Oracle State Park volunteers work as guides to lead school programs scheduled in the fall and spring months. Volunteers will also help with special events and the park gift shop.

The January 23 informational class welcomes potential volunteers. No commitment is necessary. Volunteer Naturalist Training continues the following week, Wednesday, January 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Kathie Jordan will teach class participants about the plants of Oracle State Park. Meet at the Kannally Ranch House for a hands on indoor session to identify common trees, bushes, agaves, yuccas and more; followed by a trail walk to hone your botanical knowledge. Consecutive training classes are scheduled each Wednesday for the next six weeks through March 12.

For more information call (520) 896-2425. Oracle State Park is a 4,000 acre wildlife refuge located in the northern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains in the town of Oracle north of Tucson.
