The creation of the Colorado River Research Library is part of the Yuma Depot’s new interpretive focus on the Colorado River. The river has played a central role in both the development of Yuma and the greater southwest. It is a river we depend upon, but which is severely threatened by over-allocation. In 2015, the Colorado was named America’s “Most Endangered River” by the non-profit organization American Rivers.

The Colorado River Research Library is comprised of books, magazines, and DVDs related to the history of the Colorado River, its present status, and future challenges. Library materials cover a wide variety of topics, including native tribes along the river, steamboat travel, ecology, exploration, river allocation, and more. 

The library is open to formal researchers and the general public by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling Park Curator Tammy Snook at (928) 247-6391. The library includes a computer with internet access and the ability to watch DVDs, as well as wi-fi access for laptop/tablet users. As a reference library, materials cannot be removed for check-out.
