Get Back to the Parks Before You Go Back to School!

August 8, 2017

PHOENIX – As the kids gear up to head back to school, there’s still time to get out and explore Arizona State Parks and Trails! Whether you head out for a weekend or just for a day, there’s lots to learn and discover.

Try out one of our historic state parks for an education in Arizona’s past! Fort Verde, Jerome, McFarland, Riordan Mansion, Tombstone Courthouse, Tubac Presidio, Yuma Quartermaster Depot, and Yuma Territorial Prison all offer a look back in time with museums about the local way of life, tours and an immersion in history.

To learn about the natural environment, try one of our parks with guided interpretive walks or hands-on programs, like Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area, or Kartchner Caverns State Park.

If astronomy is your interest, check out the amazing Star Parties at Catalina State Park, Homolovi State Park, Red Rock State Park, or Oracle State Park, which is designated as an official Dark Sky Park!

If you just want a relaxing day or weekend before the hustle and bustle of fall takes over, any one of our parks has beautiful scenery, fun activities and amazing camping spots – in a tent, RV or cabin! Make a reservation today, and make the most of summer before it’s gone!

"Managing and conserving Arizona's natural, cultural and recreational resources for the benefit of the people, both in our parks and through our partners."
